BEST FEATURE 2023 “BOYS WILL BE” (1.5h)
DATE & TIME: 19 AUG 4:00PM - 5:45PM
LOC: BACKLOT STUDIOS - MELBOURNE
‘Boys Will Be' is a unique double-bill, that first gives the audience a raw, intense, emotional drama, and after the credits on that film roll, the comedy version of the film starts playing. Each segment has the same story, same scenes, same actors playing the same roles - but one is gritty and real and beautiful, and the other is funny and silly. It's worth noting neither film reuses the same footage - each is an entirely unique experience with their own styles.
The film itself is about a young man, Zach, who has one day left in the rough area he's grown up in before he moves to Sydney in hopes of finding a better life, however he struggles with what he's leaving behind in the hood - including his best friend, Joel, who's recently become paralysed from the waist down and hasn't left the house in months. As Joel is suffering since the accident that left him paralysed, Zach hasn't had to courage to tell him that he's leaving.
'Boys Will Be' is a drama, and then it's a comedy, but it's experimental filmmaking the entire way that hopes to give audiences something to cry about, something to laugh about, and something to think and talk about.
Total runtime: 1 hour 5 minutes + Director + Lead Actor Q&A
